It’s Nobel season again and the pundits of the economics blogosphere are placing their bets. Based on numbers of citations, Greg Mankiw picks Euge Fama, Robert Barro, or Martin Feldstein. Thomson Scientific, using their citations database, predicts Elhanan Helpman & Gene Grossman, or Robert Wilson & Paul Milgrom, or Jean Tirole. Personally, I don’t have a prediction, but I hope Tirole gets it, if not this year then soon.

Other people’s predictions include Paul Krugman plus perhaps others for trade, but I doubt it because these days Krugman is sounding more like a politician than an economist. Some wags have suggested Stephen J. Dubner, for his contributions to econojournalism. Err, somehow I don’t think so. Here’s my left-field pick: Randy Wright, for his contributions to monetary economics.
